Samsung plans to release eight major devices next year, including four Galaxy S27 phones and four foldables. According to a report by ETNews, the company will deploy a new “4+4 flagship lineup” strategy.
A New Strategy for Flagships
The plan involves launching four flagship smartphones in the first quarter of 2027, followed by four foldable flagships in the third quarter. The first Unpacked event will introduce the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, and the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
In the third quarter, the Galaxy Z Flip 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 will launch. This lineup would mark the most high-end smartphones announced by the company in a single year.
TriFold 2 and Flip 9 Plans
The Galaxy Z TriFold 2 will arrive more than a year and a half after the original model debuted in December 2025. The source notes that the device is coming, though no specific release date was mentioned.
The rumors also suggest Samsung intends to keep the Galaxy Z Flip series alive. This contradicts earlier speculation that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 would be the company’s last flip foldable, as the Galaxy Z Flip 9 is reportedly on the schedule.
Historically, Samsung has maintained a consistent release cadence for its Galaxy S series, typically unveiling one new model each year. Shifting to a four-device strategy in a single quarter suggests the company is aggressively courting every possible segment of the premium market. This approach mirrors the strategy used by Apple in recent years, where multiple sizes and storage capacities are offered simultaneously to capture different consumer needs. While this expansion signals ambition, rising component costs may impact affordability. Qualcomm chip price rise to lift phone prices could force consumers to pay more for these advanced features.
The new strategy positions the Galaxy S27 Pro as a significant contender within the lineup, ranking second in terms of prowess directly behind the flagship Galaxy S27 Ultra. By introducing a Pro variant alongside the standard model and the Plus iteration, Samsung aims to diversify its offerings to cater to varying user requirements and budgets. The inclusion of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 further emphasizes the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile technology. Since the original model was announced in December last year, the arrival of this sequel after a substantial gap suggests Samsung is refining the concept before a wider rollout.
