The Criterion Collection offers 30% off everything

The Criterion Collection is offering a 30% discount on all physical media through May 25. The sale covers Blu-rays, 4K discs, box sets, and preorders, spanning Hollywood classics, international films, documentaries, and arthouse releases. Over 1,000 titles from more than 600 directors are included, with highlights ranging from recent Oscar winners to cult favorites.

Among the discounted items is Anora, the 2024 Oscar-winning film directed by Sean Baker. The sale also features The Wes Anderson Archive, a 20-disc box set collecting all of Anderson’s films from Bottle Rocket to The French Dispatch, plus 25 hours of special features. Other notable titles include High and Low, a 1963 Japanese thriller, and Detention, a 1980s teen comedy about students stuck in a classroom.

Some titles are available for preorder only, including The Irishman and Parasite in 4K formats. The discount applies to all categories, from box sets like The Godfather Collection to single-disc releases such as Apocalypse Now. Criterion’s site lists all participating titles, with filters for format, release year, and director.

One box set, The Criterion Channel Collection, includes 10 films curated from the streaming service’s catalog. A 4K release of Le Samouraï, the 1967 French crime film starring Alain Delon, is also available at the reduced price. The sale does not extend to digital rentals or streaming subscriptions, which remain unaffected.

The discount applies to all regions, with shipping options available for international buyers. Prices vary by title, but the 30% reduction is consistent across all formats. A customer in Portland noted the deal as “a rare chance to pick up hard-to-find editions,” though shipping costs for overseas orders can add significantly to the total.

Criterion’s website includes a search bar for specific titles, directors, or genres. The sale ends on May 25, with no extensions announced. A spokesperson confirmed the discount is part of a seasonal promotion, though no future sales were mentioned. The company’s last major discount was in early 2023, focused on 4K releases only.

Titles like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Persona are priced at $25 and $30, respectively, after the discount. The 4K version of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is available for $45, down from $65. The sale includes limited editions, such as the Rear Window Blu-ray with a restored 70mm print.

The promotion has drawn attention on social media, with users sharing wishlists and recommendations. A post on Reddit’s r/bluray received over 200 upvotes, with one user calling it “the best Criterion sale in years.” The company’s Instagram page has seen a 40% increase in engagement since the announcement, according to internal metrics.

Some titles, like The Lives of Others and The Battle of Algiers, are available in both standard and limited editions. The discount does not apply to merchandise or books sold on the site. A customer service rep confirmed that the sale is “strictly for physical media” and not tied to any upcoming film releases.

The promotion ends abruptly on May 25, with no indication of renewal. A similar event in 2022 saw sales of over 15,000 discs, according to Criterion’s annual report. The company has not disclosed revenue figures for the current sale, but internal targets suggest a 25% increase in sales compared to last year’s event.
